  • Other Verdanta Earth Tanzania Volunteers! You will be joined by a group of like-minded students who, like you, have opted to take on this epic volunteer programme. You will be sure to make friends for life on your trip and share an unforgettable experience.

  • We work with the best local experts from  Sokoine University’s environmental sciences and ensure that their staff are top quality, local and English-speaking. They will not only be there to ensure that you are healthy, safe and well looked after, but they’ll also be more than happy to give you a real insight into the methodology, practises and theory behind the work.

  • Yes, you can join us for an optional extra stay for a Safari and time in Zanzibar, or stay in Africa for your own travels with some top tips from the local team.

  • It's likely to be very warm in Tanzania during the Summer. You should check ahead on the weather forecasts and on the website of the Foreign, Commonwealth & Development Office (FCDO) before travel, and ensure you have the correct clothing for your time in-country.

  • No. Although a few words of local dialect will help you get more out of your trip, it is not a requirement for this trip and your main points of contact in Tanzania will be English-speaking.

  • This project is being offered on a ‘Ground Arrangements Only’ basis. However, we can advise some travel options and local suggestions if you arrive early.

  • Engaging in our Ecological Forest Conservation Project offers students a comprehensive and immersive experience that builds essential skills for a future in environmental science, conservation, and related fields.

  • This project is being coordinated by Verdanta Earth, in collaboration with Sokoine University, and the local villages near the project site.

  • No, but you’ll get a letter of reference from Verdanta Earth Tanzania and certification of all the skills you will gain from the different projects. We do advise you to discuss the internship with your university careers hub or school faculty in case it does cover course relevant benefits. 

  • One of the best things about this project is that you’ll get a genuine immersion into Tanzania culture in a way that few trips can offer. This means that you will also be eating like a Tanzanian! You’ll get three meals a day provided during your time in camp. The food will be largely vegetarian. If you have dietary requirements we’re happy to cater for them if you tell us in advance. If you have severe allergies then this trip may not be suitable for you as food prep is done in a remote camp environment.

  • Tents and guest houses.

  • We suggest that you bring the equivalent of $500 dollars with you in cash and a MasterCard or Visa debit from which you have access to a further $1000 equivalent in case of emergency.

  • Relaxing, reading, chatting. Some days the academics from Sokoine University will lead informal seminars.

  • Your participation in this project will make a HUGE difference to the Madaba project. We will increase biodiversity, reduce habitat fragmentation and lay the foundations for forest succession over many years to come.

  • No. There is very little signal in and around the project site.

  • Yes and any items to help your studies and practical work. We will provide tools and applications.
